Overview

IFN-γ positive selected T-cells are an adoptive cellular immunotherapy developed for the treatment of refractory cytomegalovirus (CMV) infections in allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplant (HCT) recipients. The process involves stimulating donor-derived T cells with the CMV-specific antigen pp65. T cells that respond by producing interferon-gamma (IFN-γ) are then isolated using a cytokine capture system (such as the CliniMACS system). These enriched, virus-specific T cells are infused into the patient to restore CMV-specific immunity and control viral replication without the need for extensive ex vivo expansion, thereby reducing the risk of graft-versus-host disease (GvHD) while providing rapid antiviral activity.
