Overview

IFX-201 is an adeno-associated virus (AAV) vector-based gene therapy developed by InflaRx. It is designed to enable the long-term, endogenous production of a monoclonal antibody that specifically targets and neutralizes complement factor 5a (C5a). By delivering the genetic instructions for the anti-C5a antibody directly into the patient's cells, IFX-201 aims to provide a sustained therapeutic effect for chronic inflammatory conditions, potentially eliminating the need for regular intravenous or subcutaneous injections of recombinant proteins. The mechanism focuses on blocking the pro-inflammatory activities of C5a, a potent chemoattractant and activator of immune cells within the complement system, thereby reducing tissue damage and chronic inflammation.
