Overview

iG-Tregs (induced GvHD-specific regulatory T cells) is an investigational adoptive cell therapy developed by the University of Patras for the prevention and treatment of graft-versus-host disease (GvHD) following hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. The therapy consists of donor-derived CD4+ T cells that are induced ex vivo into a regulatory T cell (Treg) phenotype, characterized by the expression of the transcription factor FOXP3. The induction process typically utilizes a specialized culture protocol involving TGF-beta and pharmacological agents like rapamycin to generate a stable and functional suppressive cell population. These induced Tregs are designed to suppress the activation and proliferation of alloreactive donor T cells that attack host tissues, thereby mitigating GvHD while potentially preserving the beneficial graft-versus-tumor effect.
