iganidipine

Iganidipine is a water-soluble, dihydropyridine-derivative calcium channel blocker developed by Senju Pharmaceutical. Unlike many other dihydropyridines, such as nifedipine or nicardipine, iganidipine exhibits high water solubility and superior stability under light, making it suitable for formulation as an ophthalmic solution. It acts as a calcium channel antagonist, promoting vasodilation and improving blood flow to the optic nerve head and retina. The drug was primarily investigated for the treatment of glaucoma and ocular hypertension. In 2006, ISTA Pharmaceuticals licensed the North American rights to the compound, but development was subsequently terminated.
