Drug intelligence / Profile preview
IGL-2 (Institut Georges Lopez-2) is a novel, extracellular-type organ preservation solution developed by the Institut Georges Lopez (IGL). It is designed for both static cold storage (SCS) and dynamic machine perfusion, such as hypothermic oxygenated perfusion (HOPE), of donor organs (particularly marginal or steatotic liver grafts) prior to transplantation. IGL-2 is a modified version of the established IGL-1 solution, featuring a five-fold increase in polyethylene glycol 35 (PEG35) concentration (5 g/L) and a three-fold increase in glutathione concentration (9 mmol/L), alongside the addition of adenosine and sodium nitrite. These components work synergistically to prevent cell swelling, preserve endothelial glycocalyx integrity, reduce oxidative stress, maintain mitochondrial function, and promote nitric oxide-mediated vasodilation, thereby mitigating ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI).
