Ignaseclant (NMD670) is a first-in-class, orally bioavailable small molecule inhibitor of the skeletal muscle-specific chloride ion channel (ClC-1), developed by NMD Pharma. By inhibiting ClC-1, the drug aims to enhance neuromuscular transmission and restore muscle function in patients with neuromuscular diseases where the safety margin of neuromuscular transmission is compromised. The mechanism works by increasing the excitability of the muscle membrane, thereby compensating for reduced neuromuscular signaling. It is currently being evaluated in clinical trials for the treatment of generalized myasthenia gravis (gMG), spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), and chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP).
