Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Ikatsu is a historical gastrointestinal medicine and the inaugural product of Rohto Pharmaceutical (originally founded as Shintendo Yamada Anmin Pharmacy), launched in 1899. Developed by the company's founder, Yasutami Yamada, the medicine was designed to treat a variety of stomach-related conditions, including indigestion, gastric discomfort, and loss of appetite. The formulation typically functioned as a stomachic and antacid, utilizing a combination of mineral salts to neutralize gastric acid and botanical extracts to stimulate digestive secretions and motility. As Rohto's first commercial success, Ikatsu laid the foundation for the company's long-standing presence in the gastrointestinal health market, eventually leading to the development of modern product lines such as Pansiron.
