IKT-01427 is a preclinical-stage small molecule inhibitor of the Abelson tyrosine kinase (c-Abl) being developed by Inhibikase Therapeutics. It is specifically designed for the treatment of progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML), a rare and often fatal brain infection caused by the reactivation of the JC virus (John Cunningham Virus). The drug's mechanism involves blocking the replication of the JC virus by inhibiting c-Abl, which is a host cell kinase required for the viral life cycle. IKT-01427 is intended for oral administration and represents a novel approach to treating PML by targeting host factors necessary for viral propagation rather than the virus itself.
