IL-10M is an experimental cell therapy consisting of macrophages (specifically RAW264.7 cells in preclinical models) engineered via lentiviral vectors to overexpress interleukin-10 (IL-10). Developed by researchers at the Chinese PLA General Hospital, this approach leverages the natural ability of monocyte-derived macrophages to home to atherosclerotic plaques. Once at the site of the lesion, these engineered cells secrete IL-10, a potent anti-inflammatory cytokine, to promote plaque regression, reduce the necrotic core, and polarize local macrophages toward an anti-inflammatory M2 phenotype. This localized delivery system is designed to overcome the systemic side effects and short half-life associated with recombinant IL-10 administration.
