IL-12 DNA + bupivacaine is an investigational combination therapy that includes a plasmid encoding interleukin-12 (IL-12) and the local anesthetic bupivacaine. Bupivacaine is an amide-type local anesthetic that blocks voltage-gated sodium channels on neurons, preventing nerve impulse conduction and providing local anesthesia at the injection site[3][5]. The combination may be used to enhance immune responses while minimizing injection pain or discomfort. This strategy has been explored in preclinical models and early-phase clinical trials for infectious diseases such as HIV and herpesvirus infections[2][6].
