Overview

IL-13 Rα2 UCAR-T is a type of chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy designed to target cancer cells that overexpress Interleukin-13 receptor subunit alpha-2 (IL-13Rα2). In this therapy, a patient's (autologous) or a healthy donor's (allogeneic) T-cells are genetically engineered to express a CAR that specifically recognizes and binds to IL-13Rα2 on the surface of tumor cells. This binding activates the engineered T-cells, leading to the selective destruction of the cancer cells. The term "UCAR-T" can refer to "universal" or "off-the-shelf" allogeneic CAR T-cells, or to CAR T-cells engineered with a "universal tricistronic transgene" to co-express multiple CARs. IL-13Rα2 is considered an attractive target because it is highly expressed in various solid tumors, such as glioblastoma, melanoma, and neuroendocrine tumors, while having limited expression in normal tissues. This immunotherapy aims to harness the body's immune system to combat these cancers.
