Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**IL-15C** is a biologic drug consisting of interleukin-15 (IL-15) bound to its high-affinity receptor alpha chain (IL-15Rα), forming an IL-15/IL-15Rα complex. This complex mimics natural trans-presentation of IL-15 and enhances its immunostimulatory effects, promoting the proliferation, activation, and survival of natural killer (NK) cells and CD8^+^ T cells. IL-15C has demonstrated protective efficacy in animal models of infectious disease and malignancy, notably preventing experimental cerebral malaria and inhibiting tumor growth by stimulating immunoregulatory and cytotoxic responses. Mechanistically, IL-15C acts as an agonist of both NK cells and CD8^+^ T cells, leading to elevated production of cytokines such as IL-10 and IFN-γ, and improved immune regulation. Humanized versions and clinical candidates structurally related to IL-15C are under active investigation as cancer immunotherapies and adjuncts to immune checkpoint blockade, antibody therapy, NK cell, and CAR-T/NK cell approaches. IL-15C is not a single marketed entity but rather encompasses research and clinical-stage formulations of IL-15/IL-15Rα complex[1][3][4][7][8][9][11][12][13].
