IL-23 p19-targeting dexabody is a synthetic D-protein therapeutic candidate being developed by Dextera Biosciences for the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and psoriasis. The drug is engineered using Dextera's proprietary "dexabody" platform, which utilizes mirror-image D-amino acids to create proteins that are resistant to proteolytic degradation by enzymes in the blood and digestive tract. This stability potentially allows for both injectable and oral delivery. The dexabody specifically binds to the p19 subunit of interleukin-23 (IL-23), thereby neutralizing the cytokine and preventing it from activating the Th17 inflammatory pathway, which is a central driver of chronic autoimmune and inflammatory conditions.
