Drug intelligence / Profile preview
IL-33 cytokine trap is a recombinant fusion protein developed by AstraZeneca (originally MedImmune) that acts as a decoy receptor to neutralize interleukin-33 (IL-33). It is designed by fusing the extracellular domains of the IL-33 receptor ST2 (interleukin-1 receptor-like 1) and its co-receptor IL-1RAcP (interleukin-1 receptor accessory protein) to the Fc portion of human IgG1. By trapping IL-33, it prevents the cytokine from binding to its functional cell-surface receptor complex, thereby blocking downstream pro-inflammatory signaling cascades. It is primarily utilized as a preclinical research tool to investigate the role of the IL-33/ST2 pathway in inflammatory and autoimmune diseases, such as spondyloarthritis, asthma, and pulmonary fibrosis.
