Overview

IL-5R alpha siRNA is a small interfering RNA designed to silence the expression of the interleukin-5 receptor alpha (IL-5RA) subunit. In research settings, specifically in bladder cancer cell lines like HT1376, it has been used to demonstrate that the IL-5/IL-5R alpha signaling axis promotes cell migration through the ERK1/2-mediated expression of MMP-9 and activation of NF-κB. By knocking down the receptor, researchers observed a significant reduction in these metastatic markers, suggesting a potential role for IL-5R alpha in cancer progression beyond its traditional role in eosinophil biology.
