Overview
IL-6 miniprotein is a preclinical-stage miniprotein therapeutic being developed by VRG Therapeutics. Discovered using the company's proprietary AI-MPRO (and WISDOM) platform, the candidate is designed to selectively block interleukin-6 (IL-6) trans-signaling while sparing classical IL-6 signaling. This selective mechanism aims to target the pathogenic, pro-inflammatory pathways of IL-6 involved in chronic inflammatory and autoimmune diseases, while preserving its physiological, homeostatic immune functions. By avoiding global IL-6 blockade, which is typical of existing monoclonal antibodies, the miniprotein is intended to minimize side effects such as upper respiratory tract infections, neutropenia, and acute pancreatitis.
