IL-6 receptor antibody

An interleukin-6 (IL-6) receptor antibody is a type of monoclonal antibody designed to target and block the IL-6 receptor (IL-6R), thereby inhibiting IL-6-mediated signaling pathways. IL-6 is a pleiotropic pro-inflammatory cytokine involved in various physiological and pathological processes, including immune regulation, inflammation, and oncogenesis. By binding to either the soluble or membrane-bound forms of IL-6R, these antibodies prevent IL-6 from interacting with the gp130 signal transducer, effectively suppressing downstream JAK/STAT, MAPK, and PI3K/Akt signaling cascades. This class of therapeutics is widely utilized in the treatment of autoimmune and inflammatory conditions, such as rheumatoid arthritis, giant cell arteritis, and cytokine release syndrome (CRS), and is also being investigated in oncology to overcome therapeutic resistance and inhibit tumor progression.
