IL-7-secreting Salmonella typhimurium is an attenuated strain of *Salmonella typhimurium* genetically engineered to express and secrete Interleukin-7 (IL-7). This microbial therapy utilizes an arabinose-inducible system to control the timing and level of cytokine secretion. By exploiting the natural tendency of *Salmonella* to accumulate within the hypoxic and immunosuppressive environment of solid tumors, the therapy delivers IL-7 locally to promote the survival, expansion, and activation of tumor-infiltrating T cells. Preclinical data indicate that this approach enhances the activity of cytotoxic CD8+ T cells and induces the formation of long-term antitumor immune memory, particularly when used in combination with immune checkpoint inhibitors like anti-PD-L1 antibodies.
