Drug intelligence / Profile preview
IL109 is an investigational recombinant protein therapy developed by Shanghai Pharmaceuticals Holding Co., Ltd for the treatment of digestive system diseases, specifically inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and ulcerative colitis. It functions as a long-acting analogue or derivative of Interleukin-10 (IL-10), a potent anti-inflammatory cytokine that plays a critical role in maintaining immune tolerance and limiting inflammatory responses in the gastrointestinal tract. By binding to and activating the Interleukin-10 receptor (IL-10R), IL109 suppresses the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines (such as TNF-alpha and IL-12) and modulates the activity of macrophages and T-cells, thereby reducing intestinal inflammation and promoting mucosal healing. As of early 2024, IL109 is in the IND (Investigational New Drug) stage of development.
