Overview

CCX140-B (ilacirnon) is an orally administered small molecule drug developed as a selective antagonist of the chemokine (C-C motif) receptor 2 (CCR2). It works by blocking the infiltration and activation of monocytes and macrophages via CCR2 during inflammation, aiming to provide therapeutic benefit in diseases characterized by inflammatory cell migration without broadly suppressing immune function. The primary indication for CCX140-B is diabetic nephropathy, where it has demonstrated renoprotective effects—reducing albuminuria and improving kidney function—in patients with type 2 diabetes. Clinical studies have also shown improvements in glycemic control parameters such as hemoglobin A1c and fasting plasma glucose. The drug has been evaluated in phase 2 clinical trials for diabetic nephropathy and primary focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS)[1][3][4][5][6][7].
