ilaprazole

Ilaprazole is a third-generation proton pump inhibitor (PPI) used for the treatment of acid-related gastrointestinal disorders, including gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), dyspepsia, peptic ulcer disease (PUD), and duodenal ulcers. It acts by irreversibly inhibiting the H+/K+-ATPase enzyme (proton pump) in gastric parietal cells, thereby suppressing gastric acid secretion. Ilaprazole has demonstrated higher potency and a longer duration of action compared to earlier PPIs such as omeprazole. Unlike some other PPIs, its metabolism is less affected by CYP2C19 genetic polymorphisms due to nonenzymatic reduction pathways. In addition to its primary use in acid-related disorders, ilaprazole has shown potential antitumor activity through inhibition of T-cell-originated protein kinase (TOPK). It was developed by Il-Yang Pharmaceutical and is approved for clinical use in China and South Korea; it is marketed under various brand names including Noltec and Norutec[2][3][4][5][6][7][8].
