Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Ilaprazole + sodium bicarbonate is a fixed-dose oral combination of two agents used to manage gastric acid-related disorders. Ilaprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that suppresses gastric acid secretion by irreversibly inhibiting the H+/K+-ATPase enzyme (proton pump) in the gastric parietal cell. Sodium bicarbonate acts as a systemic and local antacid, neutralizing gastric acid and providing immediate symptom relief. In the combination, sodium bicarbonate also protects ilaprazole from acid degradation in the stomach, allowing faster absorption and more rapid onset of action. The combination is primarily indicated for the treatment of acid-related conditions such as peptic ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), and other disorders involving hyperacidity[6].
