Overview

ILP101-Inhale is an investigational gene therapy developed by Ilya Pharma for the treatment of cystic fibrosis. It utilizes a proprietary platform consisting of genetically modified *Lactobacillus reuteri* bacteria engineered to express and deliver the human chemokine CXCL17 directly to the lungs via inhalation. CXCL17 is a mucosal chemokine that binds to the CXCR4 receptor and plays a role in modulating the pulmonary immune environment. By acting as on-site mini-bioreactors, the bacteria produce therapeutic quantities of the chemokine to address the underlying immune dysfunction in cystic fibrosis. The therapy is classified as an advanced therapy medicinal product (ATMP) by the European Medicines Agency and as a low-risk candidate under the gene therapy umbrella by the FDA.
