Overview

Imalumab is a fully human recombinant monoclonal antibody that targets the pathogenic form of macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF), specifically oxidized MIF (oxMIF). By binding to MIF, imalumab blocks its activity and prevents the MIF-mediated secretion of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as interleukin-1 beta and tumor necrosis factor-alpha. This mechanism may inhibit cancer cell proliferation in tumors that overexpress MIF. Imalumab was developed for use in oncology indications including metastatic colorectal cancer, ovarian carcinoma with malignant ascites, solid tumors, and lupus nephritis. It has been evaluated in phase 1/2 clinical trials but development has been discontinued for all known indications[1][2][3][5][8].
