Overview

ImatiSYM is a small molecule tyrosine kinase inhibitor developed by Symbion Life Science, containing imatinib mesylate as its active ingredient. It is primarily indicated for the treatment of Philadelphia chromosome-positive (Ph+) chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) and KIT-positive gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST). The drug functions by competitively binding to the ATP-binding site of specific tyrosine kinases, including the BCR-ABL fusion protein, c-KIT (CD117), and platelet-derived growth factor receptors (PDGFR). This inhibition prevents the phosphorylation of substrates involved in signal transduction pathways that drive cell proliferation and survival, effectively inducing apoptosis in malignant cell lines. ImatiSYM is also utilized in the management of acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL), aggressive systemic mastocytosis, and dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans.
