Overview

IMC-3C5 is a fully human IgG1 monoclonal antibody that specifically targets and antagonizes vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 3 (VEGFR-3, also known as FLT4). By binding to VEGFR-3, IMC-3C5 inhibits its activity, which may result in the suppression of tumor angiogenesis and lymphangiogenesis—processes critical for tumor growth and metastasis. The drug was developed primarily for the treatment of advanced solid tumors and other neoplasms. Preclinical studies demonstrated that blocking VEGFR-3 can inhibit both blood vessel formation (angiogenesis) and lymphatic spread of tumors. Clinical development reached phase 1 trials but was discontinued due to limited efficacy in patients with nonselected colon cancer despite a favorable safety profile[1][2][6][7][8].
