IMD-006 (formerly known as ABP dendrimer) is a nano-sized, phosphorus-based dendrimer capped with azabisphosphonate (ABP) groups, developed for the topical treatment of psoriasis. It functions as an immunomodulatory agent that specifically targets the mitochondria within keratinocytes. Upon internalization, IMD-006 induces changes in mitochondrial morphology, increases mitochondrial reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels, and promotes mitochondrial degradation (mitophagy). This mitochondrial targeting helps restore the balance between keratinocyte proliferation and differentiation, which is characteristically disrupted in psoriatic skin. Due to its susceptibility to hydrolysis at neutral pH, IMD-006 is typically formulated in catanionic vesicles (such as TriCat) or hydrogels to improve stability and skin penetration for therapeutic application.
