IMD-1041 is a small molecule drug that acts as a selective inhibitor of I-kappa B kinase beta (IKKβ), thereby modulating the nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) pathway and inhibiting plasminogen activator inhibitor 1 (PAI-1). It was initially developed by the Institute of Medicinal Molecular Design. The drug has been investigated for its anti-inflammatory and anti-tissue remodeling properties, with potential therapeutic applications in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), diabetes mellitus, glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, neovascular glaucoma, pulmonary fibrosis, and diabetes complications. IMD-1041 is orally available and has demonstrated safety in early clinical studies involving healthy subjects and diabetic patients. The structure of IMD-1041 remains undisclosed. The drug reached Phase 2 trials for COPD and diabetes mellitus in Japan and the UK but appears to have no recent development activity reported as of late December 2022. It is not approved or marketed anywhere globally.
