Overview

Imdevimab is a recombinant human IgG1 monoclonal antibody developed for the treatment and prevention of COVID-19. It is used in combination with casirivimab as part of an antibody cocktail (marketed as REGEN-COV) to target the spike protein of SARS-CoV-2, the virus responsible for COVID-19. Imdevimab binds specifically to the receptor binding domain (RBD) of the spike protein, blocking its interaction with the ACE2 receptor on human cells and thereby preventing viral entry and infection. This dual-antibody approach reduces the risk of resistance due to viral mutations. Imdevimab was developed by Regeneron Pharmaceuticals and has been authorized for emergency use in several regions during the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly for patients at high risk of disease progression who are not hospitalized or do not require oxygen therapy[1][3][6][8].
