Imdusiran is a second-generation, N-acetylgalactosamine (GalNAc) conjugated small interfering RNA (siRNA) therapeutic developed for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. It is specifically designed to reduce all HBV viral proteins and antigens, including hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg), which is considered a key prerequisite for reawakening the patient’s immune response against the virus. Imdusiran targets hepatocytes using GalNAc delivery technology, enabling subcutaneous administration. Preclinical and clinical data have shown that imdusiran effectively reduces HBsAg levels, viral antigens, and HBV DNA in patients with chronic hepatitis B. The drug has demonstrated pan-genotypic activity and retains efficacy against resistant HBV isolates. Imdusiran acts through direct RNA interference without stimulating cytokine release or causing significant adverse events in trials to date[1][3][5][6].
