imiglitazar + insulin

Imiglitazar (TAK-559) is a dual peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR) alpha and gamma agonist developed by Takeda for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus, hyperlipidemia, insulin resistance, and impaired glucose tolerance. It is a novel oxyiminoalkanoic acid that acts as an oral agent with potent hypoglycemic and hypolipidemic activity. Imiglitazar has partial PPAR-alpha agonist activity and modest PPAR-gamma activity at higher concentrations. Clinical studies have evaluated its use in combination with stable-dose insulin therapy for type 2 diabetes mellitus. Insulin is a peptide hormone that regulates blood glucose by promoting cellular uptake of glucose via activation of the insulin receptor tyrosine kinase pathway. The combination was investigated to improve glycemic control in patients inadequately managed on insulin alone or other oral agents[1][3][4].
