Overview

Imipenem + albumin refers to a combination of the carbapenem antibiotic imipenem with human serum albumin. Imipenem is a broad-spectrum β-lactam antibiotic that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins, leading to cell lysis and death. Human serum albumin is a plasma protein commonly used as a drug carrier or stabilizer in pharmaceutical formulations, but it does not have intrinsic antibacterial activity. There is no evidence that this specific combination (imipenem + albumin) is an approved or marketed pharmaceutical product; however, experimental studies have explored the use of human serum albumin as a nanocarrier for antibiotics like imipenem to potentially enhance their pharmacokinetic properties or antibacterial efficacy[4]. The primary indication for such combinations would be investigational and not standard clinical practice.
