imiquimod + influenza vaccine

Imiquimod + influenza vaccine is an investigational combination regimen being evaluated to improve the immune response to seasonal influenza vaccination in immunocompromised populations, specifically patients with untreated stage A chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). Imiquimod, a small molecule Toll-like receptor 7 (TLR7) agonist, is applied topically to the vaccination site to act as an adjuvant, stimulating the innate immune system and enhancing the production of protective antibodies against the influenza virus antigens provided by the vaccine. This approach aims to overcome the typically poor seroconversion rates (15-20%) observed in CLL patients following standard vaccination. The regimen was studied in a Phase II trial led by The Royal Bournemouth Hospital.
