Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Immunate is a plasma-derived, double virus-inactivated concentrate containing both human coagulation Factor VIII (FVIII) and von Willebrand Factor (VWF). It is primarily indicated for the treatment and prophylaxis of bleeding episodes in patients with hemophilia A (congenital FVIII deficiency). Additionally, it is used for the treatment of von Willebrand disease (VWD) when desmopressin (DDAVP) treatment alone is ineffective or contraindicated. The VWF component in Immunate serves to promote platelet adhesion to damaged vascular endothelium and acts as a carrier protein for FVIII, protecting it from rapid degradation in the circulation. The product is manufactured from pooled human plasma and undergoes viral inactivation steps, including solvent/detergent treatment and heat treatment. Originally developed by Baxter, the product transitioned through Baxalta and Shire following corporate spin-offs and acquisitions, and it is currently part of the Takeda hematology portfolio.
