Overview

ImmuneCellVir-I is an allogeneic, "off-the-shelf" cell therapy consisting of cytomegalovirus (CMV)-specific T lymphocytes. Developed by Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein, it is intended for the treatment of CMV infections and viremia in patients following allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation who are refractory or intolerant to conventional antiviral therapies. The product is manufactured from the buffy-coat derivatives of healthy platelet donors, with CMV-specific T cells expanded and selected via an interferon-gamma (IFN-γ) capture system after stimulation with the pp65 viral capsid peptide. The therapeutic mechanism involves donor CD4+ and CD8+ T lymphocytes recognizing CMV-infected cells and mediating their destruction through the release of cytokines (e.g., IFN-γ), perforins, and granzymes, thereby restoring antiviral immunity in immunocompromised recipients.
