Overview
The Immunitor COVID-19 vaccine, also known as V-SARS, is an investigational oral therapeutic vaccine developed by Immunitor Inc. for the prevention and treatment of COVID-19. The vaccine is uniquely formulated as an oral pill derived from heat-inactivated plasma obtained from COVID-19 patients. This modality is designed to induce mucosal immunity, which is considered a critical defense against pathogens that enter the body through mucous membranes. Administered once daily for a 15-day course, the vaccine entered Phase I/II clinical trials in May 2020 to evaluate its safety and immunogenicity in healthy volunteers. Unlike traditional prophylactic vaccines, V-SARS is positioned as a therapeutic biologic that leverages the immune components present in convalescent or active-phase plasma to stimulate a protective response.
