Overview

This is a combination therapy consisting of immunoglobulin and ribavirin. Ribavirin is a synthetic guanosine nucleoside antiviral agent that interferes with the synthesis of viral mRNA, primarily used to treat hepatitis C and certain viral hemorrhagic fevers. It acts as a prodrug, metabolized into nucleoside analogs that block viral RNA synthesis and mRNA capping[1][5]. Immunoglobulins are antibody preparations derived from human plasma, used for passive immunity against various infections by neutralizing pathogens or their toxins. The combination of immunoglobulin with ribavirin has been explored in the management of some severe or emerging viral infections (such as certain hemorrhagic fevers), leveraging both direct antiviral effects (ribavirin) and passive immune protection (immunoglobulin). This combination is not standard for hepatitis C but may be considered in specific clinical scenarios where enhanced antiviral activity or immune support is needed.
