IMOVAX Polio

IMOVAX Polio is an inactivated poliovirus vaccine (IPV) developed and manufactured by Sanofi Pasteur for the prevention of poliomyelitis. It is a trivalent biologic consisting of highly purified, formaldehyde-inactivated poliovirus strains: Type 1 (Mahoney), Type 2 (MEF1), and Type 3 (Saukett). These strains are cultivated in Vero cell cultures using microcarrier technology. The vaccine works by inducing active immunity, specifically stimulating the production of neutralizing antibodies against all three poliovirus serotypes to prevent infection and paralytic disease. Indicated for infants, children, and adults for both primary immunization and booster doses, it is administered as a sterile suspension via intramuscular or subcutaneous injection. IMOVAX Polio has been licensed since 1982 and is approved in approximately 60 countries worldwide, with clinical trials demonstrating its safety and immunogenicity across diverse populations.
