IMP-205 is a peptide-based drug candidate being developed for the treatment of Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy (CIDP). It is a derivative of the P140 peptide, which was originally identified for its immunomodulatory properties in systemic lupus erythematosus. IMP-205 acts as an autophagy modulator by specifically binding to the Heat Shock Cognate 70 (HSC70) protein, also known as HSPA8. This binding inhibits chaperone-mediated autophagy (CMA), a process that normally facilitates the presentation of cytoplasmic self-antigens on MHC class II molecules. By reducing the activation of autoreactive T-cells without causing global immunosuppression, IMP-205 aims to address the underlying pathology of CIDP. The candidate is currently progressing through clinical development, with plans for Phase 2/3 trials.
