Overview

IMP-Tregs (Investigational Medicinal Product-Tregs) are autologous, ex vivo expanded regulatory T cells (Tregs) developed for the treatment of inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), including Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. These cells are designed to restore the balance between pro- and anti-inflammatory T cells in the intestinal lamina propria. To enhance their therapeutic efficacy, IMP-Tregs can be engineered via mRNA electroporation to overexpress GPR15, a G protein-coupled receptor that facilitates homing to the inflamed gut by binding to adhesion molecules like MAdCAM-1 and VCAM-1 on the intestinal endothelium. This modification improves the functional fitness and localization of the transferred cells without compromising their intrinsic immunosuppressive capabilities.
