Overview
IMPACT is an immunomodulating oral nutritional supplement (ONS) produced by Nestlé Health Science, specifically formulated as a medical food for the dietary management of patients undergoing major surgery or facing clinical challenges like trauma or burns. The formula contains a unique blend of immunonutrients, including arginine, glutamine, omega-3 fatty acids (eicosapentaenoic acid and docosahexaenoic acid), nucleotides, and antioxidants (vitamins C and E). These components work synergistically to modulate the immune response, reduce systemic inflammation, and support tissue repair and protein synthesis. In clinical settings, such as the Phase 4 trials conducted at Stanley Dudrick's Memorial Hospital, IMPACT is administered preoperatively to patients with gastrointestinal cancer to reduce the incidence of postoperative infectious complications and decrease the length of hospital stay.
