Overview

IMRAB is a veterinary rabies vaccine containing inactivated rabies virus, specifically the Pasteur strain (NIH PV-11). Developed and manufactured by Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health, it is a killed virus biologic designed to provide active immunity against rabies infection in a wide range of animal species, including dogs, cats, horses, cattle, sheep, and ferrets. The vaccine is produced in a stable cell line, chemically inactivated, and typically formulated with an adjuvant such as aluminum hydroxide to enhance the immune response. It is available in several formulations, including IMRAB 1 (annual), IMRAB 3 (three-year), and IMRAB 3 TF (thimerosal-free), catering to different regulatory requirements and species-specific needs.
