Overview

iMSC-derived extracellular vesicles (iMSC-EVs) are nanoscale, lipid-bilayer vesicles secreted by mesenchymal stem cells that have been differentiated from induced pluripotent stem cells (iMSCs). These vesicles contain a complex mixture of proteins, lipids, mRNAs, and microRNAs, and they function to transfer biological signals between cells. iMSC-EVs are being investigated as a promising cell-free therapeutic modality, leveraging the regenerative and immunomodulatory potential of MSCs without the risks of live-cell therapies. Their mechanisms of action include the modulation of immune cell activity (such as downregulating pro-inflammatory cytokines and altering T cell and innate lymphoid cell responses), promotion of tissue repair and regeneration, and anti-fibrotic effects in several organ systems. Preclinical studies support their application in conditions such as tendinopathy, asthma, liver injury, renal fibrosis, and wound healing. They are a focus of ongoing research in regenerative medicine and immunotherapy, though not yet approved for clinical use[1][2][4].
