Overview

The inactivated bivalent enterovirus 71 and coxsackievirus A16 vaccine is a biologic candidate developed by Sinovac (Beijing Kexing Biological Products) for the prevention of hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD) and herpangina. Produced using Vero cell culture technology and subsequently inactivated, the vaccine targets the two most common viral causes of HFMD: Enterovirus 71 (EV71) and Coxsackievirus A16 (CA16). By providing bivalent coverage, it aims to offer broader protection than existing monovalent EV71 vaccines. The vaccine is currently undergoing Phase I/II clinical evaluation in China to assess its safety, tolerability, and immunogenicity across various age groups, including infants as young as 6 months, children, and adults.
