Overview

The inactivated H5N1 whole-virion influenza vaccine is a viral vaccine developed for the prevention of avian influenza caused by the H5N1 subtype of the Influenza A virus. This specific formulation, developed by Jilin Yatai Biological Pharmaceutical, is produced using Vero cell culture technology rather than traditional egg-based methods. The vaccine contains the entire inactivated virus, which presents a broad array of viral antigens, including hemagglutinin (HA) and neuraminidase (NA), to the host immune system to stimulate protective antibody and cellular immune responses. It has been evaluated in Phase 1 clinical trials to assess its safety, tolerability, and preliminary immunogenicity in healthy adults.
