inactivated polio vaccine-PATH-influenza refers to the specific set of vaccines—the seasonal trivalent inactivated influenza vaccine (TIV) and the inactivated polio vaccine (IPV)—utilized in a Phase 4 cluster-randomized clinical trial led by PATH in rural Senegal. The study was designed to evaluate the direct and indirect (herd) effectiveness of seasonal influenza vaccination in children aged 6 months to 10 years. In this trial framework, TIV served as the primary intervention to protect against three strains of seasonal influenza (typically A/H1N1, A/H3N2, and a B strain), while IPV was used as a control vaccine in the control clusters, providing protection against poliovirus types 1, 2, and 3. Both vaccines are inactivated (killed) virus platforms administered via injection to stimulate protective antibody responses without the risk of causing the diseases they target.
