Overview

This inactivated poliomyelitis vaccine (IPV) is a trivalent biologic developed by the Institute of Medical Biology, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences (IMBCAMS) using the traditional Salk strains (Type 1 Mahoney, Type 2 MEF-1, and Type 3 Saukett). The vaccine is produced by growing the viruses in Vero cells or primary monkey kidney cells, followed by purification and inactivation with formaldehyde. It is designed to provide active immunity against all three serotypes of poliovirus, preventing paralytic poliomyelitis. In clinical development within China, this Salk-strain IPV has served as a critical benchmark for evaluating the safety and immunogenicity of newer Sabin-strain based inactivated vaccines (sIPV).
