Overview

Inactivated poliomyelitis vaccine Sabin strain (sIPV) is a trivalent **inactivated polio vaccine** produced from attenuated Sabin poliovirus types 1, 2, and 3, grown in Vero cell cultures and inactivated (typically with formaldehyde or other methods). Unlike conventional IPV, which is manufactured from wild (neurovirulent) poliovirus strains, sIPV uses the safer, attenuated Sabin strains, reducing biohazard and biosafety risks during production. The vaccine elicits the formation of neutralizing antibodies, providing immunity to all three serotypes of poliovirus and preventing poliomyelitis. sIPV is used for routine immunization and outbreak response in several countries, and has an established safety and immunogenicity profile, with tolerability comparable to other IPV formulations. Recent advances include alternative inactivation methods (such as UVC irradiation), aiming to further improve safety and immunogenicity[1][2][3][4][7].
