Overview

The inactivated quadrivalent influenza split vaccine is a biologic vaccine developed by Sanofi Pasteur, marketed under brand names such as Fluzone Quadrivalent and VaxigripTetra. It is an inactivated, split-virion vaccine containing hemagglutinin (HA) antigens from four influenza virus strains: two influenza A subtypes (H1N1 and H3N2) and two influenza B lineages (Victoria and Yamagata). The vaccine is produced by propagating viruses in embryonated chicken eggs, followed by inactivation with formaldehyde and chemical disruption using a non-ionic surfactant. It is indicated for active immunization against seasonal influenza A and B in individuals aged 6 months and older, providing broader protection than trivalent vaccines by including a second B-lineage strain.
