Overview

The inactivated quadrivalent influenza virus split vaccine is a biologic developed by the Wuhan Institute of Biological Products, a subsidiary of China National Biotec Group (CNBG) under Sinopharm. This split-virion vaccine is designed to provide active immunization against seasonal influenza by targeting four distinct viral strains: two influenza A subtypes (H1N1 and H3N2) and two influenza B lineages (Victoria and Yamagata). The vaccine works by presenting the hemagglutinin proteins of these inactivated viruses to the host immune system, thereby stimulating the production of neutralizing antibodies. It has undergone Phase III clinical evaluation in populations aged 60 and above and exploratory Phase IV studies in children aged 3-8 years. The vaccine received registration in the UAE in early 2024 and has been exported to international markets including Kenya.
